Promoting environmental awareness among students in North Macedonia

On 15th February 2023, right after the beginning of the course in Sassinoro (Italy), the Water’s Experts training course started in Tetovo, North Macedonia, thanks to the great effort of the project partner, Community Development Institute (CDI).

During the preparatory phase, CDI staff had different meetings with all VET (Vocational Education and Training) schools in their region, and after a detailed analysis the Medical High School “Nikola Stein”, in Tetovo, was chosen as the best entity to implement the Water’s Experts training course.

The industrialisation and urbanisation have been increasing in North Macedonia, and this resulted in the deterioration of the water quality in the whole region. The Medical High School in Tetovo showed great concern about this issue, and recognised the need to promote environmental awareness among their students and the importance to provide them with the necessary skills to address this issue. The Medical High School “Nikola Stein” shares the core values and goals of the Water’s Experts project, and this represents the base of a fruitful collaboration between the school and CDI.

Sasho Markovikj, biology teacher from the above-mentioned school, is the person in charge of helding the training course. Among the students, he identified 16 young people who showed interest for the course and were eager to learn more about the training topics.
The training programme has the same structure for all partners, including theoretical lessons and practical activities. Besides the theoretical part in the classroom, the practical training will be held near river Pena, in the Tetovo city centre.

After North Macedonia and Italy, the Water’s Experts training course is about to start in France and Portugal, too.
